Coming off the popularity of volleyball at the Rio Olympics, John Hutchings of Healthy Edge Media discussed the fitness benefits of the sport Tuesday on News 8 at Sunrise.
"Volleyball is a great game, and without thinking about it, you're getting a cardiovascular workout," said Hutchings from Hot Shots on University Avenue in Rochester. "You're getting some strength training and agility. You're diving for balls. You're jumping to hit balls and block balls. It's just a great way to get a workout, and as you mentioned, coming off the Olympics, we're all kind of fired up to go out and try something new."
As Ethan Dangler and Bryan Eckler demonstrated aspects of the game, Hutchings noted the inclusive and social nature of volleyball, which can be played on the sand or harder surface one on one, two on two or team against team. "You can find recreational leagues if you want to go have a beer after work with your friends," he noted. "You can set up a net in the backyard and play with your siblings. It's accessible, and that's what we want to convey to the audience. Get up, get moving, get out there and have fun with it!"
